Chiron

Chiron in astrology marks the site of a core wound: something painful that cannot be fully healed but can become a source of wisdom. A minor planet orbiting between Saturn and Uranus, discovered in 1977, it shows where acknowledged pain turns into depth and into the capacity to guide others through similar terrain.

wound, healing, wisdom

Overview

From the wise centaur who healed others and could not heal himself.

Discovered in 1977 between Saturn and Uranus, Chiron marks the wound that becomes a teaching: pain that cannot be undone, but can be turned into the capacity to accompany others.

Mythology

Chiron was unlike the other centaurs: son of Cronus and the nymph Philyra, immortal, learned in medicine, music, prophecy and the hunt, he raised heroes — Achilles, Jason, Asclepius — in his cave on Mount Pelion. Struck by an arrow dipped in the Hydra's blood, he suffered a wound his own art could not cure; unable to die, he finally exchanged his immortality for the release of Prometheus, and was set among the stars. The healer wounded, the teacher freed by surrender: few myths map a symbol so precisely.

Interpretation

A minor planet orbiting between Saturn and Uranus. In modern astrology it marks the site of a core wound — something painful that cannot be fully healed but, once acknowledged, becomes a source of depth and the capacity to guide others through similar terrain.
