House XII
The Twelfth House of the natal chart governs the unconscious, seclusion, and what operates out of sight, from dreams to self-undoing patterns. Planets here work behind the scenes, often felt as fate until made conscious. As the last house it also holds compassion in its purest form: service without recognition.

Overview
What you dissolve.
Retreat, spirituality, what is hidden, the surrender of the ego. The Twelfth House is the threshold between an end and a new beginning.
Mythology
The tradition gave it sombre names: Carcer, 'the prison', in Latin; Kakos Daimon, the 'Bad Spirit', in Greek — the place of joy of Saturn, where exile, confinement and hidden enemies gathered. It is the house just above the eastern horizon: its stars have risen before the Ascendant and already slipped from view, like the hour that precedes the dawn. Monasteries, hospitals and prisons — all the enclosures where ordinary life is suspended — became its later domain, together with the solitude in which the soul settles its oldest accounts.
Interpretation
The Twelfth House governs what lies beyond the ego's reach: the unconscious, sleep and dreams, seclusion and retreat, institutions that remove one from ordinary life, and the self-undoing patterns that operate out of sight. Planets here work behind the scenes — often felt as fate until they are made conscious. The house also holds compassion in its purest form: service without recognition, prayer, art that channels something larger. As the last house, it dissolves what the cycle built, returning it to the source before a new beginning.
