Fire

Fire is the element of the signs that act before they think. It stands for impulse, enthusiasm and the will to radiate outward. In a chart, the weight of Fire measures how much of the personality moves on its own initiative, without waiting for permission or proof.

energy, impulse, inspiration

Overview

The element that begins: heat that moves before it has a reason.

Fire is spontaneity and forward drive. It does not deliberate, it ignites — and it needs something to burn, otherwise it consumes itself.

Interpretation

Fire is the first of the four elements and the most immediate: it acts, then understands. The three fire signs share a confidence that does not come from evidence but from vitality — Aries begins, Leo shines, Sagittarius aims further. In a natal chart the amount of Fire says how much of the person moves by impulse and enthusiasm rather than by calculation.

Abundant Fire gives courage, warmth and a natural authority, and the tendency to start more than can be finished. Scarce Fire does not mean a cold person: it means the initiative has to be found somewhere else, usually in the mind or in the reaction to circumstance, and that enthusiasm needs a reason before it shows up.
