Air
Air is the element of the signs that live among ideas and relationships. It stands for language, comparison and circulation. In a chart, the weight of Air measures how much of the personality works by understanding rather than by instinct or effort.
thought, connection, exchange
Overview
The element that connects: nothing is real until it has been said to someone.
Air puts distance between the self and experience — the distance where thought becomes possible, and where feeling can be described instead of undergone.
Interpretation
Air is the element of the mind and of relation. The three air signs share the need to translate everything into language — Gemini collects, Libra compares, Aquarius abstracts — and they meet the world by understanding it before inhabiting it. In a natal chart the amount of Air says how much of life passes through the head first.
Abundant Air gives clarity, sociability and the ability to hold two opposite views without breaking, along with a tendency to substitute talking about something for doing it. Scarce Air does not mean stupidity: it means thought follows action, that positions are held by conviction rather than argument, and that detachment is hard to reach when it would help.
